De Ruijter was founded in 1860 and is the inventor of the typically Dutch Muisjes. In addition to the introduction of fruit hail (1928), Bebogeen (1945) and chocolate sprinkles (1957), the range continues to expand. De Ruijter's coloured mice are perhaps the most unique product of De Ruijter. They are traditionally eaten on rusk in the Netherlands when a child is born.
