In some German cities with Dutch influences, such as Emden, Potsdam or in the region around the former Dutch barracks base of Seedorf, Sinterklaas comes every year on 5 December and brings sweets for the children together with his helpers, the "Pieten". Traditionally, kruidnoten or old Dutch pepernnoten are then distributed to the children. Children especially love the biscuits, as kruidnoten have a particularly sweet taste and are in their mouths in one swoop.
