The Verweij Roomboter Siroopwafels are typical Dutch syrup wafers. These consist of two delicious dough wafers between which is a creamy, caramel syrup filling, also called a stroop in Holland.

Stroopwafels traditionally have a diameter of about 10 - 12 cm and are often bought by tourists at markets in the Netherlands. There, the stroopwafels are made fresh and even the crumbs of the stroopwafels are offered as a delicious speciality. Super tasty! But industrially produced stroopwafels are also a real treat, wonderfully sweet and caramel. Stroopwafels are one of the most popular souvenirs for friends, family and acquaintances from the Netherlands. Simply delicious!
Dutch syrup wafers are a popular accompaniment to coffee or tea in the Netherlands. They are part of every good serving of tea. Dutch stroopwafels originally come from Gouda, just like the cheese of the same name. Stroopwafels have now been baked for more than 200 years. The wafers, which are thin anyway, are cut lengthwise with a sharp knife directly after baking and then filled with stroop. At Dutch weekly markets, you can watch how the stroop wafers are made. Stroop is a caramel-like syrup filling - wonderfully sweet. It is very delicious and goes perfectly with the dough wafers.
