What are Stroopwafels from Holland?
Next to Vla and liquorice, Stroopwafels are probably the Netherlands' most popular export - in the field of sweets. Stroopwafels are a traditional speciality from the Netherlands and would be called "syrup wafers" in German. The name says it all: the Stroopwafel consists of two round wafers. Where does the stroopwafel actually come from?
Stroopwafels originated, how could it be otherwise, in the Netherlands. In the city of Gouda, which is famous for its cheese. It was here that stroopwafel was first made in 1784 and served with tea or coffee. A sweet change and soon very well-known and popular in the Netherlands.
